MEET THE TEAM
The Apex Team

CHARITY TRUSTEES
The Apex Challenge is managed year round by a core team of three who are the charity's trustees.

Matt RichardsMatt Richards - Event Director

Matt's the main organiser of the Apex Challenge and holds a number of outdoor instructing qualifications and is a full member of the Mountain Leader Training Association. He enjoys walking and climbing and by profession works as a TV reporter in Hull.

David PapeDavid Pape - Event Organiser

Dave's the team's technical guru and develops the event's computerised scoring systems. Like Matt he was a Venture Scout while growing up in Sheffield. He now works as a software engineer in Leeds.

James WebsterJames Webster - Event Organiser

James looks after our website and all our printed material. Matt and Dave first got him involved in Scouting and he now wishes he had been as a child! In his spare time he's a journalist in Manchester.

Nadine SnowdonNadine Snowdon - Entries Coordinator & Event Centre Manager

Nadine's in charge of updating the website as new teams enter our upcoming events. She also looks after the Event Centre during the competitions. Away from Apex she works for Leeds City Council.

Richard GarrettRichard Garrett - Technical Manager

Richard's the man who takes our very long list of our technical requests and uses a mass of spaghetti-like cables to make them happen!

Michael SharpMichael Sharp - Technical Assistant

Making all our generators, speakers and lights work for a whole weekend's no longer just a one-man job. Michael works with Richard to make sure everything happens as it should.

Duncan HortonDuncan Horton - Photographer

Duncan's been with the Apex team since the very start is now one of the event's photographers. He first got involved in Scouting as a youngster in Sheffield. By trade he sells tools all over the world.

Nancy HortonNancy Horton - Photographer

Nancy's photography is all over the Apex website. A photographer by trade, she heads up our photography team and is often found hanging from trees and crawling around to get the best shots!

Nancy AlfordSharon Beardsley - Photographer

Sharon joined the Apex photography team in 2009 and, having previously never been to one of our events, thoroughly enjoyed the weekend.

Andrew BillingtonAndrew Billington - Event Assistant

Andrew's one of the team helping out in the Event Centre throughout the weekend. One minute he might be helping sign teams in, then he'll be out running errands to and from the activity bases.

Jo FultonJo Fulton - Event Assistant

Jo's another one of the familiar faces you'll see helping out at Event Centre throughout the weekend. Most of the jobs we give her are quite dull to be honest, but she's happy to help with all of it!

Kevin KeaneKevin Keane - Video Journalist

Kevin's one of the cameramen who films the Apex Extreme and edits together the event DVD. His feet often ache after travelling all over the playing area. He works as a journalist for the BBC.

Phillip NortonPhillip Norton - Video Journalist

Phillip spends the weekend out with Kevin filming the Apex Extreme events and works long into the night editing the footage together. In his spare time he's a video journalist with the BBC.

John and Marion ParkinsonJohn & Marion Parkinson - Catering Team

John and Marion are two of the people who work hard throughout the weekend making sure we're all fed and watered which is quite a task when there are hundreds of hungry mouths!

John HallJohn Hall - Catering Team

John's supported the Apex Challenge since before we even held our first event back in 2002. Now he's a regular member of the catering team, working to feed both teams and the organising crew!

Bob TeasdaleBob Teasdale - Sunday Event Visionary

Bob takes on the role of planning the Sunday activities for the Apex Extreme and each year comes up with new and exciting challenges to test our teams to the limit.

Ian BrannanIan Brannan - Voiceovers

You might not recognise his face but you'll certainly know his voice. Ian is one of the voices you'll hear throughout out events doing the voiceovers. By trade he's a radio presenter in Yorkshire.

Luisse WhitingLuisse Whiting - Voiceovers

Another person you'll recognise more by the sound of her voice than from her face is Luisse who's the second of our voiceover team! She works as a radio presenter in Germany.
